Hello my name is Fiona Hesford, I've worked in textiles pretty much all my life since leaving Uni many moons ago. The fashion industry was where I started, spending 6 years in Paris as a design consultant and then back to the UK where I worked with many companies such as House of Fraser, Next and freelancing for many others.
I live by the sea with my husband the artist Marko, twins Alfred and Matilda and
Madame Mabelline (the cat) and love spending my time teaching sewing at Clothkits (Chichester) and The Fluffatorium (Dorking) at my 'Make Your Mother Proud' sewing workshops teaching complete beginners and improvers how to sew. I also hold classes in skirt and dressmaking from my own patterns.
You can also find my range of specially designed products at Margot The Beach Hut Makery at
East Beach Studios next to Coast cafe on Worthing beach, so if you are passing, why not pop in to say hello! Its just lovely down there!
When I'm not doing that I write regular sewing projects and articles for magazines and books such as Sew, Love Sewing, Sew Now, Popular Patchwork and Love Patchwork & Quilting magazines and am a regular presenter on The Sewing Quarter TV (freeview 73 and Sky 687).
I am also the person resonsible for Daisy May Cooper's Swindon dress that she wore when she won her award at the Baftas 2018.
Phew! As you can see I like to keep busy, when you have a passion for fabrics and sewing, it's so satisfying to pass it on to others. There is nothing better than sewing in my mind, making things for your home, friends or family or making your own clothes is just SO enjoyable.
Why not come along to one of my workshops it would be lovely to meet you or let me know by email that you would like to join my newsletter or follow me on facebook and instagram to know about forthcoming Sewgirl events.
